Surgeon blasts the latest craze in body modification with corset piercing and ribbons

0
Forget tattoos, belly button piercings and Lady Gaga-style silicone implants - the latest craze in body modification is 'corset piercing' where metal rings are pierced into the skin and joined together with a ribbon to give a corset effect.

The 'decoration', which can cost up to £300, can be applied to any area of the body where the skin is loose enough to pinch in order to thread a needle through. Popular areas include the back, ribs and, in some cases, even the throat.

But a cosmetic surgeon has now warned of the dangers of the bizarre trend which is sweeping the UK, saying the scarring following the procedure can be 'absolutely horrendous'.
Some have endured an hour of pain to achieve the corset effect but it's only temporary - after a few weeks of wear they simply grow out, leaving scars in their place.

It appears to be the latest in the 'body modification' phenomenon, which has seen people going to extraordinary levels in a bid to stand out from the crowd.
Today it's possible to be branded, scarred and even have silicone implanted under the skin to create bumps and 'horns'.

Eccentric popstar Lady Gaga is just one celebrity who's jumped on the bandwagon. She sported bizarre flesh-coloured 'horns' on her face during a television interview in February this year.

According to piercing experts, the 'corset' modification is growing in popularity as more and more brave the pain.
But consultant plastic surgeon Kevin Hancock, a council member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons who works at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Merseyside, warned of the problems it can cause.

He said: 'I can't believe it's something that people would be attracted to.

'Any piercing, superficial or otherwise, produces a scar and different people scar in different ways.

'For some, the scarring may be slight but for others it can produce problems where the tissue overgrows and you end up with a red lump which is permanent.

'In some cases this can be absolutely horrendous.

'I have to say it seems absolutely barking to me. I was amazed when I saw pictures of this piercing - it would be extremely painful and it's only temporary.

'This is a row of rings which could also bleed and become infected. There is a risk of the rings pulling the skin and also becoming caught on something.
'I can't believe that people are going out with these things on display - they're open to any sort of infection. It's verging on masochistic.

'It's just bizarre. I saw a picture of a girl who had the front of her chest done like this, that area is very prone to scarring. It's an awful thing to do.'

Laura Hunt offers corset piercing at her Tattoo and Piercing Studio, called Dragstrip, in Southampton, Hampshire, and charges £5 per hoop.

The 25-year-old, from Southampton, who has had the piercing herself, insisted it wasn't dangerous.
She explained: 'Corset piercing is becoming more popular. Body modifications have recently become really popular as everyone wants to be different.

'It can be quite painful. It involves pinching the skin and pushing the needle through by hand.

'A lot of people know about it and would like to have it done but for some it can be too painful.

'It's not dangerous because it's a surface piercing and doesn't go deep enough.

'It's an open wound so it has to be cleaned to prevent infection - it's just like any other piercing.

'It only lasts for three to four weeks and after that it will just grow out. It does leave a few red scars.

'We get a lot of different people asking to have it done - one was a 45-year-old mum who wanted it done for a tattoo convention.

'We've also had a couple of students doing art degrees and others who are in to fetishes and pain. Others have it done because they want to look nice for a particular occasion.'

Body Piercing Is An Art Of Fashion

0

Have you ever tried piercing? No? Then go for it! Piercing is an art and looks amazing when done on ears and eyebrows. Many people go for piercing, because it is in fashion. Piercing can be done on belly, ears, tongue and at any part of the body.
Body piercing is not a new technique of beautifying a person. It has been a rolling history. Earlier it was a ritual, now a fashion whip. Whatever may be the cause, the underlying effect was that it made the person beautiful.
The generation today can do anything possible to attract themselves and make them stand out in the crowd. Piercing done on body is one of them. History gives evidence that lip piercing, tongue piercing was in trend during ancient times and ear and nose piercing were the most common ones. It is still very common among the tribal who consider it to be a social custom and ritual.
It is a very serious matter as the healing time for pierced parts depends on which part the piercing has been made and how safely the piercing has been done. The first thing that a person should keep in mind before opting for body piercing is how clean the salon is, where he or she wants to go to get pierced? The choice of jewelry is another important criterion before getting body pierced. Implant grade stainless steel, gold and titanium are commonly used safe jewelry metals that are being used. Silver, though cheap but it is not a good choice for belly piercing ornament.
It is a gift by the designers who have come up with different types of attractive piercing charms. It ranges from stud, hoop, and dangle earrings to ornaments for nose, tongue and navel piercing.
It may occur strange to the minds of many people on coming across piercing of weirdest things on the body of a youngster but it is a fashion fad that is into trend now. One should always take into notice if the piercing salon has a certificate for registration with Association of Professional Pierces.
The acceptability of body piercing in our society has been rising over the years and hence more and more youngsters are going for body piercing. The safety and complication part should always be kept in mind before piercing as results show that any place other than the ears attract complications and therefore fashion should go hand in hand with safety and hygiene to make a person more attractive.

Body Piercings Care

Historically, body piercing was used to celebrate milestones in a person’s life or as a custom, depending on the culture. In modern society they are used to decorate the body and as a fashion accessory.
Body piercing can, however, have some very serious consequences if some basic hygiene measures are not adhered to.
General Piercings
As for any piercing, ensure the skin is clean and dry before having a piercing. Always make sure that the technician you have selected to do the piercing is qualified, experienced and trained in principles of sterility, has single-use items and has an up to date and functioning autoclave (device used for sterilising equipment). Do not be embarrassed to ask for proof of these items, they are used to it. There are no laws stating who can trade as a body piercer, but there is training available to those who want to be a conscientious practitioner.
Before carrying out the piercing, make sure the piercer has washed their hands and has applied gloves. They should clean the area to be pierced with a suitable solution.
After the piercing, you should be provided with some after care instructions to take home; if not please do ask for instructions, most infections related to piercing occur as a consequence of incorrect aftercare, not from the actual piercing itself.
Avoid touching the piercing, unless for cleansing purposes, during the healing process. The hands and nails harbour many germs and a piercing provides a very attractive environment for breeding. When attending to the jewellery, get all equipment needed ready and wash hands thoroughly. The piercing should be cleaned at least three times a day using a saline solution and cotton gauze. Bathe the area to loosen any flakiness or crusts. If the area is becoming inflamed or sore the use of an anti-microbial soap may be beneficial.
Dry the area gently using a single-use item such as paper-towels. Dispose of items immediately.
Oral Piercing
Oral piercings carry greater risks of infection, especially whilst healing, as the mouth contains many bacteria that can infect the site. Risks include blood poisoning, airway blockage and nerve damage. Oral hygiene is especially important whilst the piercing is healing. Use an antiseptic mouthwash after each meal to help remove bacteria and debris from becoming trapped around the piercing. Include the jewellery when brushing the teeth and make sure all sides and angles are given attention.
Ask your dentist or oral hygienist for advice, and make sure you have regular check-ups.
Genital Piercing
It is not advisable to engage in any sexual activity whilst healing is taking place, trauma to the site can induce inflammation and therefore infection.
Avoid oral sex until the site has healed as the mouth contains germs that may be transmitted to the piercing resulting in an infection. Use plenty of water-based lubricant during sexual activity whilst healing is taking place, to lessen friction and reduce trauma.
Always dry the area after urinating to avoid build-up of bacteria, washing with warm water and drying when able.
If your piercing becomes very red, swollen, weeping pus or bleeding, please do see your GP who may suggest a course of anti-biotics to fight the infection. The piercing will probably need to be removed.

Female Genital Piercing Should I or Shouldn’t I?

I’ve been thinking about getting my vagina pierced, so I decided to consult my good friends and ask them what they think about vagina piercing. Needless to say, this conversation was definitely for girls only and I hope no guys read this, but guys if you do please be understanding and supportive.
My girlfriend Ashley got her vagina pierced and she said it was the best decision she’s ever made in her life. One thing I want to know about Ashley is, that she is into a Gothic lifestyle and loves piercing. Incidentally, she is the one who was really wanting me to get my vagina pierced!
I asked her, did it hurt when you got your vagina pierced? She said yes it did. I told her that I was not afraid of the pain, but that I did not want it to affect my sex life in a negative manner. At this point, she said that every one’s physiological makeup is different and what may be good for you, may not be for everyone else. This is why I love talking to Ashley, because she is one intelligent girlfriend and before she does anything, she learns about all the implications.
Here’s where things get very interesting, she told me that having her vagina pierced has caused multiple orgasms. Another hurdle I would have to jump over is will my boyfriend like this idea, because if he doesn’t like it then I’m not going to do it. So girls if you’re reading this article right now, make sure you talk this over with your boyfriend, before surprising him with a pierced vagina!

I had one woman tell me that she got her vagina pierced, just so she could keep men from having sex with her. I realize some women have had some bad experiences with men, but fortunately I’ve got a great boyfriend and our sex life is explosive! I know some girls get their vagina pierced, just to impress a guy or entice a guy, but I don’t feel that that’s a good reason to get a vagina pierced.
The wisest thing you can do is sit down with a piece of paper and write out two columns that contain the pros and cons of getting your vagina pierced. That way, you can see if you have more good reasons for doing this, then the wrong reasons for doing it. Sometimes us girls need a good reality check and that means asking our friends for help, but more importantly looking at the reasons why we do what we do.
I am still undecided about getting a vagina piercing, because I do not have a list of good reasons that outweigh the bad reasons, not to mention, I do not want to do something that I’m going to regret later, only because it’s the hot thing to do at the moment.

Cada perforación merece atención, sobre todo las nombradas y es importante que sigas los consejos sanitarios y de higiene que te hace el perforador, no lo desoigas o acabarás perdiendo el aro tras una seria infección.
